A versatile performer able to play in defence or midfield he has only been on the fringe of the team since making his international debut in 1994. He began his playing career Genclerbirlgi and played for Kilimlispor before signing for giants Galatasaray in 1994. He made his Turkey debut almost immediately but played only two more matches before being a surprise inclusion in the 2000 European Championship Finals squad where he played two matches. He has been part of the Galatasaray team that have developed into a real European force but his appearances for the national team have been limited due to the form of Kerimoglu Tugay in his favourite midfield position.
