Knocker West, a powerful centre forward was one of the League's top strikers winning a Championship medal (1910-11) at Old Trafford.
Suspended sine die for his alleged role in a betting scam (1915), the ban was not lifted until 1945 by which time he was nearly sixty.
For many years he lived in Railway Road, literally a stone's throw from the ground.
