A Nigerian by birth, Emmanuel began his playing career in his native country for Jasper United and moved to Poland to play for Polonia Warsaw in 1997.
Here he was discovered by national manager Jerzy Engel who persuaded him to apply for Polish citizenship . He was granted citizenship in July 2000 and made his international debut a month later against Romania.
He moved to Greece to play for Panathinaikos on loan in January 2001.
He has developed into a key player for the team, a dangerous runner at defenders with exceptional close skill and a lethal finisher.
Emmanuel scored in Poland's 3-1 defeat of USA in the final game at the 2002 World cup finals.
He joined Portsmouth in January 2006 with a contract to the end of the season.
