This powerful central defender began his career in Nigeria with Hdoji United before spending an unhappy season in England with Charlton Athletic which ended when his application for a work permit fell through. He later joined Spain's Osasuna, but spent almost a year out of action due to a bad knee injury. Soon after recovering fitness he was loaned to Wolfsburg in December 2000 and the move became permanent in the 2001 close season. Emeka won his first cap against Burundi in January 1999 but missed the 2000 African Nations' Cup tournament through injury. However he made a successful return to the national side for the vital World Cup qualifying game in Ghana in March 2001.
