After spells in non-league with Stevenage and Chesham United Dwayne returned to the full-time game when he joined Bristol Rovers in September 2000. Soon after signing he kept his nerve to net the winning penalty in the Worthington Cup second round shoot-out against Premiership Everton but it was not until the appointment of caretaker-manager Garry Thompson that he established himself as a regular in the first team. A promising midfielder he netted his first league goal in the 2-0 win over Bury and impressed with his ball-winning skills and some superb passing.

Dwayne's contract with Bristol Rovers was cancelled in September 2002.
