Ruud Gullit's anticipated pairing of Duncan with Alan Shearer didn't materialise for any length of time as injury robbed the duo of establishing a genuine understanding.

Recognised as one of the best headers of the ball in the modern game.

Came initially on loan to Everton in October 1994

It was with a huge sense of frustration in 2000-01 that Evertonians watched their cult hero produce some of the most consistent goal scoring of his Goodison career only to fall victim to the injury curse that has plagued his whole career.

When fully fit and focussed Duncan is a difficult centre forward to halt.

His aerial strength is formidable and he is more adept on the floor than many give him credit for.

Everton fans were thrilled when he returned from Newcastle United in a cut-price deal -and confirmed the Everton tattoo was still prominently displayed on his shoulder.

Two goals after stepping off the substitutes' bench on his home debut against Charlton Athletic helped add to his legendary status.

A dreadful tackle in that match sparked the start of many injury problems, however, including one bizarre incident when he broke his hand detaining an alleged intruder at his family home.

The six goals he scored still proved invaluable in Everton's bid to avoid relegation.

Duncan's contract at Everton was extended to June 2006 in June 2005.
