Darby proved the perfect foil for Justin Jackson as they fired Rushden and Diamonds towards the Conference title.

He top scored with 24 goals, including a hat-trick against Morecambe.

Darby's best individual match record though came in November 1996 when he scored six for Hull City against Whitby Town in a FA Cup replay.

The former Torquay United striker celebrated Rushden's promotion to the Second Division by agreeing a new two-year deal in May 2003.

Darby was made available for transfer by Shrewsbury Town in January 2005.

His Gay Meadow contract was cancelled in January 2006.
