An England Under-21 international before arriving on Tyneside, Des experienced Champions' League and UEFA Cup action whilst at St James' Park.
Powerfully built former England Under-21 international. Mostly restricted to outings in Newcastle United reserves in 2000-01, Des spent two loan spells with Second Division Tranmere Rovers where he impressed with his mature and reliable style of play. Injury cut short the first period, but he returned in the New Year when he again made a significant contribution to Rovers' struggle against relegation.
He is a powerfully built midfield player who tackles forcefully and is always willing to launch an attack.
Des' contract at Grimsby Town was cancelled in March 2004.
