Deon Burton

2000-01 was a season of contrasting fortunes for Deon Burton.

He started well, netting in the opening game with Southampton, but by November his form and confidence had dipped and he spent a short time on the transfer list.

Injuries led to a recall at the turn of the year, however, and he responded enthusiastically.

His most important goal of the season was a fine header that earned the Rams a point at Liverpool over Easter.

Blessed with a great deal of pace, he is at his best when running directly at defenders while his off-the-ball movement can cause trouble for opposing defences.

Deon continued to lead the attack for Jamaica throughout the campaign winning a further 12 caps.

Deon joined Brentford in July 2004 with a one-year contract then Rotherham United in a two-year deal.

He joined Sheffield Wednesday in January 2006 with a contract to June 2007 that was extended to June 2009 in May 2007.

Deon joined Gillingham in August 2012 with a one-year contract.

He joined Scunthorpe United in July 2013 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2015 in June 2014 before it was cancelled in January 2015.
