An ever-present at Bradford City in 2000-01 apart from suspensions, Dean Windass featured both as a striker and in midfield showing great enthusiasm and a will to win whatever the circumstances.

In March, he was rather surprisingly allowed to move on to Middlesbrough where he made an immediate impact by scoring on his debut at Chelsea.

Readily joining in Boro's fight against relegation, he gave his all as ever and was a real asset in their ultimately successful struggle.

Deano is the original 'rough diamond' in the best Alf Tupper 'Tough of the Track' traditions [a fictional working-class hero in the Victor comic of the 1960s for the uninitiated].

A man who would run through the proverbial brick wall for his team, he knows no fear in goalmouth melees, aware only that he is there to score goals.

Dean returned to Bradford City in June 2003 on a two-year contract that was extended to June 2006 in October 2004. It was further extended to June 2009 in October 2006.

After a loan spell, Dean returned to Hull City in June 2007 with a two-year contract.

In addition to the yellow cards totals shown below, whilst warming-up as an unused sub, Dean was booked after 66 minutes of Hull City's Premier League game at Stoke City on 29 November 2008 for unsporting behaviour.
