Although not always a first choice for Walsall in 2000-01, Dean Keates came back again and again to lift the side when they were in danger of slipping out of the promotion race.

His tackling and use of the ball were inspirational and he also came up with some vital goals, including a penalty against Port Vale, and an in-swinging corner in the Play-Off Semi-Final against Stoke City.

He follows in the Saddlers' tradition of battling all-action midfielders and remains a key member of the squad.

Following his release by Walsall, Dean originally joined Hull City on a non-contract basis in August 2002.

He re-joined his former Tigers boss Jan Molby in February 2004 when he signed for Kidderminster Harriers with a contract to June 2005.

Dean returned to Walsall in January 2006 with a contract to the end of the season.

He joined Peterborough United in July 2007 with a contract to June 2010 that was cancelled in December 2009.
