Blackwell scored the goal that nobody saw and in the end never counted when he netted in the fog-bound FA Cup tie for Wimbledon against Notts County before the match was abandoned. This seemed to sum up a frustrating season for him as he was sidelined for long periods with groin and achilles injuries and was only fit to take his place in the side for a short time. A strong towering central defender whose positional play is second to none he will be hoping for a return to fitness in 2001-02 so that he can resume his formidable partnership with Mark Williams at the heart of the Dons' defence.
Blackwell announced his retirement in September 2004 due to a knee injury.
