Full name is: David Villa Sánchez
Villa was born into a mining family and suffered a fracture of the femur when he was just 4 years old. He made a complete recovery from this injury and the process of rehabilitation may have helped him become ambidextrous.
As a young player he was turned down by Real Oviedo who considered him too short and lacking in potential, however he proved a success at local club, Sporting de Gijon.
He joined Real Zaragoza in the summer of 2003 where he played a major role in winning the 2004 Copa del Rey.
Villa joined Valencia for the start of the 2005-06 season.
David Villa scored twice in Spain's opening game in the 2006 World Cup finals - a 4-0 win against Ukraine. He added a penalty as Spain went out in the Round of 16 to France in a 1-3 defeat.
In 2008 Villa won the Copa del Rey with Valencia and finished as the top scorer at Euro 2008
On 19 May 2010 Barcelona acquired Villa for a reported fee of 40 million Euros. He went on to score in the 3-1 victory over Manchester United in the 2010-11 Champions League final.
After playing a major role in helping Spain qualify for Euro 2012, Villa broke his tibia in a Club World Cup semi-final victory against Al Sadd in Yokohama, the injury eventually ruling him out of the Euro 2012 finals.
David Villa was included in Vicente Del Bosque's squad for the 2014 World Cup.
