Although still a teenager, David was a near ever-present for Nottingham Forest in 2000-01 and continued to make good progress.

His contract at Leeds United was extended to June 2009 in November 2007 and to June 2010 in August 2008.
After a loan spell, David joined Colchester United in February with a contract to the end of the season.
He joined Swindon Town in July 2010 with a one-year contract.
David joined Sheffield Wednesday in July 2011 with a two-year contract that was extended to June 2014 in June 2013.
