Nielsen joined Grimsby Town on loan in October 2000 and quickly impressed the Blundell Park faithful with a well-taken goal on his first appearance in the starting line-up against Queens Park Rangers. He seemed to have solved the Mariners' goal-scoring problem but with the club keen on a permanent transfer no deal could be reached. He left Grimsby in January and shortly afterwards joined Wimbledon where he again made an immediate impact, netting on his home debut against Birmingham. However although he played a number of games for the Dons towards the end of the season he seemed to struggle to find his best form. He is a talented striker who is fast, strong and possesses excellent ball control.
