Johnson started the 2000-01 season at Ipswich more like his old self and seemed to relish playing on the Premiership stage at last.
However, despite all his efforts he was unable to notch that elusive first Premiership goal.
It was not for want of trying though and luck was not with him either.
Fabien Barthez brought off an excellent save to deny his goal-bound header against Manchester United, while in the next home game, against Sunderland, he had what appeared to be a perfectly good goal disallowed.
Bradford City's Matt Clarke also pulled off a magnificent save to deny him yet again.
If one of those opportunities had gone in, who knows what might have happened but Town manager George Burley finally seemed to decide that his style was not compatible with that of his striking partner Marcus Stewart and, early in the new year, he was sold to Nottingham Forest.
Bought to solve Johnson Platt's goal-scoring problems, he managed to hit the back of the net just twice in 19 games at the City Ground.
Johnson's Forest contract was extended up to June 2007 in September 2003 but he was made available for transfer in May 2005.
He retired due to a back injury in September 2006.
