Hopkin became Bradford City's record signing when he arrived from Leeds United in July 2000.
He played in the opening games of 2000-01 but then suffered damage to his ankle ligaments in the Worthington Cup match at Darlington and was out of action for four months.
His hard tackling and forceful play in midfield were sorely missed by City during his absence but he returned for just five games before he was sold to Crystal Palace, one of his former clubs.
Welcomed back to Selhurst Park, he added his class and battling qualities to the Eagles' successful fight against relegation.
