After failing to establish himself at Dunfermline Athletic, David had a spell on loan with Inverness Caledonian Thistle before joining Torquay United on a short-term contract on Transfer Deadline Day in 2001.
A quick and busy striker, he played an important role in ensuring the Gulls survival netting two goals in five games including one in the final-day decider at Barnet.
David was placed on the Plainmoor transfer list in November 2001 but his fortunes improved to such an extent that he was offered a new deal up to June 2005 in October 2002.
He subsequently moved on to Wigan Athletic in June 2004 with a three-year contract.
David joined Sheffield Wednesday in August 2005 in a three-year deal.
He was made available for transfer by the Owls in May 2007.
David joined Gillingham in August 2007 with a one-year contract but was made available for transfer in January 2008.
He joined Lincoln City in July 2008 with a six-month contract.
