Foley became Hartlepool United's youngest-ever player when he came on as a sub against Port Vale on 25 August 2003 at the age of 16 years 105 days.

The record was set by his Pool team mate Steve Istead who made his debut the previous October at the age of 16 years 187 days.

Foley signed his first pro contract with Hartlepool United in June 2006.
