Flitcroft was again a key figure in the centre of the park for Rochdale in 2000-01.
In partnership with Gary Jones, he never gave opponents any respite and his will to win was clear in every game.
Apart from a brief spell out while undergoing a hernia operation in the autumn, he rarely missed a game and even took over in goal after Neil Edwards was sent off at Southend United.
Flitcroft is a battling midfield player with a good long-range shot.
The younger brother of Blackburn Rovers' Garry Flitcroft joined Macclesfield Town in July 2003 on a two-year contract but it was cancelled in January 2004.
He then joined Bury on non-contract terms before agreeing a one-year deal in May 2004 that was extended to June 2006 in May 2005.
Flitcroft's contract at Bury was cancelled in November 2006.
