Clare is an Under-21 and B international for Ireland.
Despite a change in management at Grimsby Town in the early part of 2000-01, Clare was mainly restricted to appearances from the subs' bench in the opening matches.
He subsequently moved on loan to Northampton Town but was unable to recapture the goalscoring form he had shown in an earlier loan period at Sixfields and returned to Blundell Park after four games.
He then had another loan spell at Cheltenham Town in the New Year but, although he gave some committed performances for the Robins, he returned early with a hamstring injury.
Clare then made a brief come back in the Mariners' squad following the departure of David Neilsen but he was released at the end of the season.
He is a pacy striker able to harry opposition defenders into errors and has a good eye for goal.
Clare went on the transfer list at Boston United in September 2002 prior to joining Chester City with a contract up to June 2005.
However, he returned to Boston in November 2004 with a contract to June 2007.
