Having been an automatic choice at right back for Hartlepool over the previous three years Darren spent much of the 2000-01 season as reserve to the younger Paul Arnison. However he returned to the first team in the new year resuming with his usual commitment. He is a great clubman, and a player who always gives 100% yet is rarely in trouble with referees.
