Primarily a defender, Darren started the 2000-01 season at Sunderland in midfield to cover for injuries and suspensions.
However, although he was very effective in the opening day win over Arsenal, he lost his place to Darren Williams after just a handful of appearances and was soon on his way to Wimbledon.
After taking some time to settle in, he began to prove his worth to the Dons, forging a very effective partnership with Gareth Ainsworth down the right-hand side.
A hard-working player, he is very versatile and can play in both midfield and defence down the centre or on the right flank, although he mostly featured at right back for Wimbledon.
Darren joined Darlington in August 2006 with a one-year contract.
