Danny Murphy

Having finally broken into the Liverpool first team in the 1999-2000 season, Danny continued to make steady progress in 2000-01.

He had a lengthy run in the side from November through to the end of February as a replacement for the injured Patrik Berger on the left side of midfield.

Enjoying some of the best form of his career, he celebrated by scoring the winner with a free kick against champions and deadly rivals Manchester United in December to help Liverpool to their first victory at Old Trafford for ten years.

He followed this up with double strikes at Aston Villa and in the Worthington Cup Semi-Final second leg triumph over Crystal Palace.

Unfortunately he was then sidelined for several weeks by a calf injury but returned to score more vital goals against Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup Quarter-Final and Porto in the UEFA Cup.

His form then dipped a little but he made the starting line-up for both the FA and UEFA Cup Finals and netted the second goal in the crucial 4-0 victory at Charlton Athletic that clinched a coveted Champions' League slot for the Reds.

Danny has had to adapt to different roles at Liverpool, sometimes as a hard-tackling destroyer, sometimes as a support striker, but his versatility should ensured that he remained a vital member of the squad at Anfield.

Danny joined Charlton Athletic in August 2004 with a four-year contract.

After a season's loan, Danny joined Fulham in June 2008 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2010 in January 2009, to June 2011 in August 2009 and to June 2012 in January 2011.

He joined Blackburn Rovers in July 2012 with a two-year contract that was cancelled in June 2013.
