Dan Adshead was selected on Rochdale's subs bench for the first time on 23 August 2017 in a League Cup tie at Stoke City.

In making his debut against Middlesbrough in the Football League Trophy on 19 September 2017, he became Dale's youngest-ever player at the age of 16 years and 17 days.

At 16 years and 105 days, Zac Hughes had held the club record for exactly 30 years as he made his debut at Exeter City in League Division Four on 19 September 1987.
