Thomas's career went sharply downhill following much publicised off the field events in the summer of 2000. He made just one senior appearance for Cardiff coming on from the subs' bench for the last few minutes of the Worthington Cup first round second leg tie against Crystal Palace. He then had a spell at Dr Martens League club Merthyr Tydfil before finishing the season playing in the South Wales Amateur League for Bryntirion. A burly striker he was later reported to be considering offers to play in Cyprus.
