Samuel previously played for San Juan Jabloteh and Doc's Khewalaas in Trinidad and was a member of the squad for the 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
He was briefly at Falkirk in 2001 but was not granted a work permit and had to return home. This problem was overcome for the start of the 2002-03 season and, despite rumoured interest from Newcastle United, he signed a two-year deal.
