Woodthorpe began 2000-01 on the subs' bench for Stockport County and featured regularly in the squad in the first half of the campaign.
Essentially a left back, he was also used in midfield and towards the end of the season even appeared as a central defender, but wherever he was asked to play he always gave a competent performance.
A model professional, and an excellent example to the club's many younger players, Woodthorpe's mature approach to the game earned him the offer of another two-year contract at Edgeley Park.
Woodthorpe joined Bury in August 2002 on a short-term contract that was extended to June 2005 in July 2004.
Woodthorpe's contract at Bury was extended to June 2008 in July 2007.
