Murdock showed his growing skill and confidence at the heart of Preston North End's defence in 2000-01 but, after receiving a red card in the game at Nottingham Forest, he took some time to win his place back.

Strong in the air and an increasingly good timer of a tackle, his distribution came on markedly during the campaign and he showed he has matured into a solid and reliable team member.

He also established himself as a regular for Northern Ireland, adding several more caps during the season.

Murdock joined Hibernian in July 2003 on a two-year contract.

He returned to England in January 2005 when he joined Crewe Alexandra with a contract to the end of the season.

Murdock joined Shrewsbury Town in July 2007 with a one-year contract.

He joined Accrington Stanley in July 2008 in a one-year deal.
