Capable of playing anywhere across midfield, Cleber secured a surprise move to England in November 2001 when he joined Southampton in a £1million deal. Along with his cousin Agustin Delgado, he was the second member of the Ecuador World Cup squad to join the Saints in the space of a week. Similar to Agustin, his move to Europe has proved far from rewarding and he has since returned to Colombia to play for Deportivo Cuenca in a loan deal.
