He joined Walsall in January 2010 with a contract to June 2011.
McDonald joined Port Vale in July 2011 with a six-month contract that was extended to June 2012 in December 2011 and to June 2013 in May 2012.
He joined Tranmere Rovers in August 2014 on non-contract terms.
