A useful striker who is generally employed in a wide position up front, Claudio made his debut for Argentina in 1995, later gaining a silver medal as a member of the team that lost to Nigeria in the final of the 1996 Olympics tournament. He went on to feature in the squad for the 1998 World Cup finals and has won over 50 caps. Claudio began his senior career in Argentina with Estudiantes and Racing Club before joining Claudio Ranieri's Valencia in 1996. 'Piojo' gained a winners' medal in the Spanish Cup in 1999 and a runners-up medal in the European Champions Cup in 2000 before being signed by Sven-Goran Eriksson for Lazio in a £22million deal soon afterwards.
