A former French Under-21 international, Christian joined West Ham United on loan from Rennes in August 2000 and made his debut from the substitutes' bench against Manchester United soon afterwards.
Unfortunately, he suffered a bad knee injury during the game and it was not until January that he returned to the first team again when he featured in the FA Cup Third Round tie at Walsall.
In all, he made four appearances as a substitute for the Hammers, amounting to just 78 minutes of first-team football during the season.
He is a hard-working ball winner in the centre of the park.
Christian returned to the Premiership when he joined Sunderland in August 2005 with a two-year contract.
