An accomplished left-sided midfielder, Christian was a four-times Championship winner with Velez Sarsfield in Argentina.
Christian signed for Newcastle United in July 2000 but his Premiership debut was delayed until November after he broke a bone in his foot during the club's pre-season tour of the USA. He eventually began to settle into the midfield, scoring his first goal against Chelsea at the end of January. A neat and undemonstrative midfield player with a sure touch and good technique he is able to play anywhere across the line, but is probably more comfortable on the left-hand side.
