Armstrong had a very frustrating time with injuries at Tottenham Hotspur in 2000-01 and had few opportunities to impress. He missed the first few months of the campaign due to a groin problem before returning with a bang when he came off the subs' bench to net a dramatic winner against Sunderland in November. He then enjoyed a brief run in the team, also scoring in the 3-3 draw at Bradford before he was sidelined again by injury and remained out of action until the end of the season. An athletic striker with great ability in the air he had made a full recovery for the start of the 2001-02 campaign. He could not force his way into the first team and was released in the summer of 2002. He was signed by Bolton Wanderers on a short term deal in August 2002 before securing a return to newly-promoted Wrexham.
