Wilson joined Bristol Rovers in the 2000 close season and immediately slotted in well in a left-back role.
However, he was then injured in the FA Cup defeat at Cardiff City and, on his return, he showed his versatility by appearing at right back and also in the centre of midfield.
A fine all-round defender, he is solid in the tackle, capable of passing the ball accurately and has a very calm approach to the game.
Wilson joined Southend United on a one-year contract in July 2003.
He agreed a new two-year contract in July 2005 which was extended to June 2008 in August 2007.
