Fredgaard again struggled to break into the first team at Sunderland in 2000-01 and the only senior action he saw came in a Worthington Cup tie at Luton.

In November he joined First Division promotion hopefuls Bolton Wanderers on loan as manager Sam Allardyce sought to boost his midfield, but although he featured in a handful of games he made little impact and returned to the Stadium of Light.

A tall and pacy left winger, he eventually moved back to Denmark in the summer signing a long-term contract with FC Copenhagen.
