Full name is: Nuno Fernando Gonçalves da Rocha.
A powerful midfielder who has had a long career in domestic football, he began at Gil Vicente in 1990.
He was one of the Portuguese team that won the 1991 World Youth Cup and was snapped up by Sporting Lisbon in 1992.
He spent three seasons before leaving to join Vitoria Guimaraes in 1995.
It was while he was here he made his international debut in February 1996 against Germany.
He joined current club FC Porto in the summer of 1997 and remains an important member of the side.
He only really established himself as first choice in the international side during qualification.
He plays for his club in the centre of midfield but plays for Portugal on the left hand side.
He is that a good tackler and his pace down the left flank gives Portugal a good attacking outlet.
