Dyer found his opportunities somewhat limited at Barnsley early in 2000-01 and went on the transfer list at the beginning of September.
However, he maintained that he didn't want to leave Oakwell and was soon back in the team.
He subsequently hit a purple patch of scoring following a change in management to finish as the Tykes' leading scorer with 16 goals in all competitions.
At best, he is a powerful striker who has the physique to put any defender under pressure.
He showed that he still has an eye for goal and is extemely dangerous when attacking down the right-hand side.
Dyer eventually agreed a new two-year deal that kept him at Oakwell until the summer of 2003.
Dyer joined Stoke City in August 2005 with a one-year contract.
He joined Chesterfield in March 2008 with a contract to the end of the 2007-08 season.
