Kidd, a brilliantly talented striker, broke into the United team when it was at the peak of its powers. His debut season (1967-68) was sensational and he capped it with a crucial goal in the European Cup Final at Wembley on his 19th birthday. The following years saw a rapid decline as the team aged together, Kidd's form suffering as United slid to the Second Division. His move to Arsenal as a replacement for Ray Kennedy signalled an upturn in his fortunes. From 1995-98 he was assistant manager at Old Trafford following his excellent work at youth level.
