Garmston's mother, Sonia Lannaman, won a bronze medal at the Moscow Olympics in 1980 as part of the 4x100 metre relay team, two years after winning gold in the individual 100 metres at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada.
After a loan spell, he joined Gillingham in July 2015 with a three-year contract.
