Brad Friedel

Friedel played in USA college soccer for UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) before starting his European career in Denmark with Brondby.

Friedel's fine form also won him preference over Kasey Keller for the USA national team in their 2002 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Blackburn Rovers then gained promotion into the Premiership and Friedel remained their first choice goalkeeper throughout the season.

He won a Worthington Cup winners medal and played a central role in Rovers maintaining their Premiership status.

In the 2002 World Cup, when Friedel blocked Eul Yong Lee's kick in the Group D draw with South Korea, it was the first penalty save in open play during the finals since Italia '90.

He saved another penalty against Poland, so - excluding shoot-outs - making him the first keeper to make two penalty saves in the World Cup finals since Poland's Jan Tomaszewski in 1974.

Friedel's contract at Blackburn Rovers was extended to June 2008 in September 2005, then to June 2009 in April 2007 and to June 2010 in February 2008.

He joined Aston Villa in July 2008 with a three-year contract.

Friedel joined Tottenham Hotspur in July 2011 with a two-year contract that was extended to June 2014 in December 2012 and to June 2015 in June 2014.

Friedel made a record-breaking run of 310 consecutive appearances in the Premier League from 14 August 2004 (playing for Blackburn Rovers against West Bromwich Albion) to 29 September 2012 (playing for Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester United).
