Zivkovic enjoyed an excellent 2001-02 campaign as Bayer Leverkusen progressed to the final of the European Champions' League. A clever technical player, he has been used in a full back and in midfield by Croatia coach Mirko Jozic. Known more for his defensive qualities, Zivkovic' only international goal came in November 2001's 1-1 draw against South Korea in Kwanglu. He started his club career with Marsonia Slavonski Brod in 1994, moving to Hrvatski Dragovoljac Zagreb two years later before arriving at the BayArena in the 1997 close season.
Having conceded the penalty that led to Mexico securing their 1-0 win in Croatia's opening game, Zivkovic became the first player to be sent-off in the 2002 World Cup finals.
