One of the first great personalities of the game, as well as his mastery on the left wing, Bobby was also renowned for his off-field antics. Finding it difficult to stay in one place for too long, he played in the early games of Newcastle's 1904-05 Championship-winning season before departing for Woolwich Arsenal.

A mercurial talent who was described by William Pickford in 1905: " Bobby is the delight and despair of thousands, to wath Templeton at his best was a sight fo rthe gods to watch him at his worst was to see at a glance the frailty of things human." He played for Kilmarnock, Hibernian, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Woolwich Arsenal. Celtic and Fulham.
