Bill Shankly was a no nonsense right-half who played over 300 times for Preston North End despite his career being interrupted by WWII.

He is most famous for his managership of Liverpool from 1959-1974. With them he won promotion to the First Division as Second Division champions 1962. First Division champions 1964,1965 and 1973. FA Cup winners 1965 and 1974. UEFA Cup winner 1973.

Shanks was also responsible for introducing new revolutionary methods of training, the now famous all red strip and the placement of the 'This is Anfield' sign at the tunnel entrance to the pitch.

He also guested for many clubs in war time games, Liverpool, Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers among them.
