Petty failed to establish himself in any one position for Stoke City in 2000-01 and played a number of bit parts for the team filling in commendably in defence, at wing back and in the midfield 'holding' role.
A committed and competitive player, having followed his former Stoke boss Brian Little to Hull City, Petty's contract with the Tigers was cancelled by mutual consent in December 2002.
