Born to Icelandic parents in the United States, Aron Jóhannsson moved to Iceland with his family at the age of three.
After representing Iceland at youth levels, he declared himself eligible for selection for the USA national football team on 29 July 2013.
He was picked for USA World Cup 2014 squad.
