This classy defender was among the best in the Second Division in 2000-01 and his excellent performances for Wigan Athletic were rewarded when he was named in the PFA's divisional team in April.
A composed central defender who is powerful in the air and strong in the tackle, he skippered the Latics to a place in the Play-Offs.
He completed a century of games for Wigan Athletic and he swept the board at the club's end-of-season awards, winning both 'Players' Player of the Year' and the supporters' 'Player of the Year'.
Arjan returned to Wigan Athletic in August 2005 with a one-year contract.
