A player who began as a right-winger, he operated as an out and out striker and partners club mate Hakan Suker for his national side.
He began his playing career at Zeytinburnuspor before moving to Galatasaray in 1991.
He made his international debut in 1994 and appeared at the 1996 and 2000 European Championship Finals.
At club level, he won five Turkish League titles before moving to Spain to play for Real Sociedad for £2 million in the summer of 2000 but could not settle and moved back to Galatasaray for £2.5 million in the November of the same year.
His ability to score was illustrated by the hat-trick he scored in four minutes against Northern Ireland in qualification for the 2000 European Championship Finals.
He has good pace and has a good eye for goal.
