The Australian-born left-sided defender became one of the brightest prospects to emerge from the Croatian League.
He was included in the squad for the 1998 World Cup finals in France even though he had only limited experience outside of youth football.
The former Hajduk Split player originally moved to Italy with Parma before soon moving on to Verona. His assured performances in the 2001-02 season reportedly attracted the interest of Internazionale.
